Paradise Valley's Resorts Traded Summer Discounts for a Fall Social Calendar

At The Hermosa Inn on Palo Cristi Road, PHOENIX magazine's 2026 staycation guide listed a summer rate of $346 a night and a high-season rate of $719. The resort's summer offer for locals ended August 30. A mile or so west at Mountain Shadows, the Fee-Free Staycation offered weeknights from $159 and weekends from $199 with a valid Arizona ID. It ran out on September 30.

Now it's October, and the same resorts are still marketing to people who live nearby. The pitch has changed shape, though. LON's has a $125 dinner on October 11. Hearth '61 runs a $45 bourbon seminar on a Saturday. Kimpton Miralina is giving free mahjong lessons. Over the summer, the deal for locals was a discounted room. This fall it's a seat at a table, priced per person, with no overnight stay involved.

What expired, and what it cost

In a town where zoning leaves almost no commercial strip, the resorts handle much of what a main street would. Their summer approach was to sell a night away. Mountain Shadows waived its resort fee. The Hermosa Inn paired 15 percent off its best available rate with a $35 nightly dining credit at LON's. It also offered a Cool Summer Dining Escape in the chilled wine cellar, starting at $165 per person.

That $165 is a good baseline for what came next. A weeknight room at Mountain Shadows cost $159 in September. In October, about that same amount buys one seat at most of the resort dinners below. The spending hasn't gone away. It has moved from the room to the dinner.

The fall calendar, priced by the seat

Every event here is sold by the seat, and none of them needs a room booking.

Date Where Event Price per person
Oct 7 Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, Praying Monk Sonoran Oktoberfest Dinner with AZ Wilderness Brewery pairings $165 plus tax and gratuity
Oct 11 The Hermosa Inn, LON's Casa Hermosa Dinner: A Night at Lon's Table $125, wine pairing $65 more
Oct 15 Mountain Shadows, Hearth '61 Spirited Sipping Seminar: After Dark, four courses $189 plus tax and gratuity
Oct 15, Nov 12 JW Marriott Camelback Inn Spanish Sunset Experience, 21+ from $125
Oct 18 The Hermosa Inn, LON's An Evening With Esteban, four courses $295 inclusive of tax and gratuity
Oct 24, Nov 21 Camelback Inn, Hoppin' Jack's Night in Naples, 21+ from $99
Oct 28 Andaz Scottsdale, Weft & Warp Harvest Moon Wine Dinner, five courses with French wines $125++
Nov 1 Kimpton Miralina, Hecho Libre Chef Series: Día de los Muertos Dinner Sold out
Nov 26 Camelback Inn, Rita's Cantina Thanksgiving Brunch $189 adult, $79 ages 3–12

The Night in Naples listing at Camelback Inn says outright that the evening is open to resort guests and locals. At Mountain Shadows, the After Dark dinner is led by Executive Chef Charles Wiley and food and beverage manager Jim Gallen. Its page went up September 28, two days before the Arizona-ID room offer expired. The Spanish Sunset Experience offers gluten-friendly service but no vegan or vegetarian substitutions, so check before booking for a mixed table.

Prices run from $99 at Hoppin' Jack's to $295 for An Evening With Esteban. Most fall between $125 and $190, close to what a summer weeknight room cost.

The weeknight layer underneath

The dinners are the headline events. Underneath them is a standing weekly schedule that keeps the resorts in use on ordinary weeknights. Laid out by day, it looks like this:

  • Tuesday. Taco Tuesday at Taqueria Centro, Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia, with chef's-choice $3 street tacos and $6 "3 Amigos" margaritas.
  • Wednesday. Wednesday Wine Down at Mbar, Montelucia. Select bottles are 50 percent off when you order two or more tapas.
  • Thursday. Thirsty "Margarita" Thursdays at Taqueria Centro. Order two margaritas and the salsa trio is free.
  • Friday. Live music at Hecho Libre, Kimpton Miralina, 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday. Weekend brunch at LON's, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Daily. LON's Last Drop happy hour runs 3 to 6 p.m., with Arizona craft beer at $8, well cocktails at $10, draft cocktails and house wine at $12, and food from $9. Lincoln Steakhouse & Bar at Camelback Inn runs its happy hour from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Hearth '61 added something new to the bar menu this month. The Literary Collection, a book-themed list of cocktails and mocktails, went up on the resort's site October 2. Montelucia has extra programming this week too. Música en Vivo at Mbar runs October 8 through 11 with local artists and a special menu. Some listings validate daytime parking for diners at Prado, Centro, Mbar or Crave Café. On October 9 and 10 from 5 to 6 p.m., the Sunset Tradition at the Alhambra Fountain includes a tinto de verano tasting, a poem reading and coin casting.

Two mahjong tables in one week

The clearest sign that the resorts are programming for neighbors is mahjong. It turns up on two resort calendars within the same eight days.

Kimpton Miralina hosts a free beginner lesson on October 10 and October 17 at 10 a.m., run by Spark AZ, a local Scottsdale mahjong social club. The listing pairs the lesson with an Olio Sunshine Latte from Café Libre and invites people to socialize "with locals and fellow guests." On October 16, Sanctuary's Matcha & Mahjong Experience at Praying Monk runs from 10 a.m. to noon. It's $35 for open play or $55 with guided instruction, and reservations are required.

The rest of the daytime and early-evening classes follow the same pattern. They're small, local and booked by the seat:

  • Mimosa & Monet at LON's on October 17, November 21 and December 12. The $120 covers the class, supplies, a mimosa, coffee, pastries, tax and gratuity.
  • Spirited Sipping Seminars at Hearth '61, held one Saturday a month for $45. "Our Favorite Bourbons" is October 10 and "Food & Wine Pairing" is November 14.
  • SolRise Fireside Flow on Sanctuary's Paradise Views Lawn, October 22 at 5 p.m., $45, with instructor Tawny Calvet and guitarist Jeff Ocheltree.
  • Desert in Color Painting Workshop at Miralina, October 13 and 20 at 5 p.m. Local artist Julianne Martin leads a watercolor study built on a Sonoran palette.
  • Storytelling Under the Stars at Miralina, October 8 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., an evening of stargazing and constellation stories.

Neither Miralina page posts a price, so confirm the cost when you reserve.

Where the guest line still holds

Not everything on these calendars is open to people who drive in. Omni Montelucia's Arizona Raptor Center falconry activations on October 10, November 14 and December 12 are listed as complimentary to hotel guests. The resort doesn't say whether outside visitors can attend. Miralina's Fall Into Miralina family weekends, October 9 to 11 and 16 to 18, include kid-friendly sunrise yoga, pastries from Noble Bread and a poolside movie. They're booked through a stay offer.

The pool and spa also have a price for outsiders, and it's posted. Through ResortPass, Montelucia lists a Kasbah Day Pass from $35, an adults-only Oasis Pool Day Pass from $50 and a Joya Spa Pass from $99. Miralina's day pass starts at $45, and its spa pass starts at $95, including the dry sauna, hot tub and cold plunge. The Spa at Camelback Inn takes a longer view. It says a limited number of private memberships are available but doesn't post the dues. Members get one complimentary class per spa visit. October's classes include yoga, sound baths and mountain bathing.

What fills first, and what comes next

A month ahead, Hecho Libre's November 1 Día de los Muertos dinner is already marked sold out. That's useful for planning around the holiday dates still open. Camelback Inn's Thanksgiving Brunch at Rita's Cantina runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 26. Mimosa & Monet has a December 12 session for anyone planning a holiday outing.

Miralina will look different by spring. The resort is in the last phase of a stated $70 million project scheduled from the fourth quarter of 2026 into early 2027. The work covers 134 renovated Valley Villas and The Enclave, an onsen-inspired hotel-within-a-hotel. The Enclave's restaurant will be Katsuya, the first in Arizona, with Culinary Director Chef Benjamin Dayag. Completion is targeted for early 2027. Hecho Libre, chef Wes Avila's Baja-meets-Sonoran restaurant, opened there in December 2025 and keeps the Friday music going in the meantime.
