The end of the off-season around Troon depends on grass and construction schedules more than on the weather. As of October 11, one Troon North course is open and one is closed. The busiest trailhead in the northern McDowell Sonoran Preserve is still behind construction fencing. A long-running Scottsdale restaurant is getting ready to reopen at a new address on Pinnacle Peak Road. Most of it comes back around two dates. Saturday, October 24, is the first. November 2 and 3 are the second.
The details below explain why the return is staggered, what's open between the two dates, and what follows them.
Why the season comes back in pieces
Each fall, Valley golf courses close for a few weeks to overseed. Crews lay winter rye over the dormant summer turf, and the course stays shut until the new grass can hold up to play. Every course sets its own window. The Arizona Golf Association's 2026 overseeding schedule shows how much those windows differ, even among courses within a short drive of each other.
| Course | Closed | Reopening |
|---|---|---|
| Troon North, Monument Course | Sept. 21 | Oct. 9 |
| Troon North, Pinnacle Course | Oct. 5 | Oct. 24 |
| Pinnacle Peak Country Club | Sept. 28 | Oct. 30 |
| Troon Country Club | Oct. 12 | Nov. 3 |
| Terravita Golf & Country Club | Oct. 12 | Nov. 3 |
At Troon North, the two closures are offset, with a short overlap. Monument closed first and reopened October 9. Pinnacle closed October 5, so both courses were dark together from October 5 through October 8. Since then, Monument has been the open one, and it stays that way until Pinnacle returns on October 24.
Troon Country Club and Terravita run on a different calendar. Both close October 12, the day after this post was published, and both reopen November 3. Pinnacle Peak Country Club falls in between and returns October 30. Across the five courses, the overseed season starts September 21 and finishes November 3.
The trails have their own construction schedule, and it follows the same pattern.
The trail map while Brown's Ranch is closed
The City of Scottsdale has Brown's Ranch Trailhead, at 30301 N. Alma School Parkway, closed for improvements, with July 13 listed as the project's expected start date. The City's project page puts the budget at $1,165,599, paid for by the 2004 Preservation Sales Tax. The plan covers three things. The parking lot is being redesigned for drainage and traffic flow. The trailhead building gets new lighting and roofing. A new trail dispersal area will reroute five trail segments to ease congestion at the trailhead. The City hasn't said which five segments will change.
On its McDowell Sonoran Preserve page, the City says it expects to announce a grand reopening date for late October. No specific day has been published yet. Until then, the City is sending hikers to Tom's Thumb, Pima-Dynamite, Fraesfield, and Granite Mountain. Street and neighborhood parking near Brown's Ranch is prohibited during the closure.
The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy has rearranged its programs around the closure. Its October 22 educational walk at Brown's Ranch is marked cancelled because of the construction. Its other October outings in the northern Preserve start from the alternate trailheads instead. These are the ones still ahead on the Conservancy's October calendar:
- October 18: "Ride the Gooseneck and Discuss Preserve Fire Restoration," from Fraesfield Trailhead, 8 to 11 a.m.
- October 23: "Missions, Massacres, and Plagues," an educational hike from Fraesfield Trailhead, 8 to 11 a.m.
- October 24: "Axel Grease, West Express, and Latigo Trails Hike," from Pima-Dynamite Trailhead, 8 a.m. to noon
- October 25: "Ride Granite Mountain," a 15-mile training ride from Granite Mountain Trailhead, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
- October 31: "Patrol the Historic Stoneman Road," an educational ride from Fraesfield Trailhead, 8 to 11 a.m.
Three of those five start at Fraesfield. With Brown's Ranch closed, the Conservancy's October schedule in the northern Preserve has shifted toward Fraesfield. October is also the City's Preserve Month, marking the protection of land that has now grown past 30,500 acres. Exploration Journals for young kids and commemorative stickers are available at the trailheads all month.
Pinnacle Peak Park, closer to home, is open as usual, with a 90-space paved lot and a two-mile, one-way trail. The daylight schedule is what changes. The City's posted park hours move to 6:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 15. They shorten again to 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on November 1, and to 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on November 15.
October 24, the first hinge
Several of these schedules meet on Saturday, October 24.
Troon North's Pinnacle Course reopens that day, and both Troon North courses are open together for the first time since mid-September. The same morning, Pinnacle Peak Park hosts Eek! At the Peak from 9 to 11 a.m. It includes costume contests, a scavenger hunt, AZ Bat Rescue, nature stations, book giveaways, and a DIY craft. Registration is required, according to the City's Pinnacle Peak Park events page.
October 24 also opens registration for something in December. The City's free Jingle Hike to Santa at Pinnacle Peak Park is on Saturday, December 5, with 9 and 10 a.m. starts. Registration opens at 8 a.m. on October 24, and space is limited. That's the same hour the Conservancy's Axel Grease, West Express, and Latigo hike leaves Pima-Dynamite.
If the City keeps to its late-October estimate, Brown's Ranch could reopen in the same stretch. Without an announced date, it's the one part of the first hinge that can't be planned around yet.
November 2 and 3, the second hinge
The second cluster brings dinner with it.
ALMA is moving to The Citadel, at 8700 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, and reopening as a Southwest-inspired steakhouse. Forking Scottsdale's October 1 restaurant roundup lists November 2 as the opening day, and reservations are already open. The concept's opening target has already moved once. WhatNow reported in July that ALMA was aiming for October 1, with early November as a possible fallback. That report also described a rooftop lounge called Copper Club, a tequila and mezcal bar, and the return of Barbwire Western Couture. November 2 is the latest published date, not a confirmed one.
Little Scoops is opening next door. It's an old-fashioned ice cream parlor connected through Little Snitch and designed to stay open later in the evening. Forking Scottsdale says it should open around the same time as ALMA. Both belong to Chef Sheila Bryson's Soul Hospitality Group, which also runs Soul Café, Vic & Ola's, Little Snitch, and Pescada. With Little Snitch already there, The Citadel will have a small cluster of Bryson's restaurants under one roof.
On November 3, Troon Country Club and Terravita reopen after their overseed. Pinnacle Peak Country Club will have been back since October 30. Once those dates pass, every course in the table above is playing on winter grass.
What comes after both hinges
The schedule after the overseed season is built around the holidays.
At Troon North Golf Club, the new Scottsdale Golf Retreat is taking reservations for stays starting in October 2026. Troon's earlier announcement placed it just west of the clubhouse. HCW Development describes a 2.7-acre site next to the club, developed by MBA Development Partners and managed by HCW Hospitality. No published source yet confirms a first arrival date. Its on-site restaurant is the club's Dynamite Grille, which Troon North lists as open to the public for dine-in every day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Down the road, Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North announced its festive-season program on September 25. It includes these dates:
- November 27: a free Holiday Market, open to the public, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- December 12, 19, and 20: children's gingerbread-house classes at Proof, 2:30 p.m.
- December 21: a Winter Solstice meditation and sound-healing gathering, 5:30 p.m.
- December 24 and 25: Christmas Eve dinner at Talavera and Christmas Day brunch
- December 31: a New Year's Eve prix-fixe at Talavera, followed by a late-night celebration at Onyx
The Jingle Hike on December 5 falls between the Holiday Market and the first gingerbread class. Its registration opens October 24, on the same Saturday as the first hinge. For anyone who has followed Troon through the summer, our Troon summer field guide covers the months just before this one. The Troon and Troon North neighborhood pages have more on the area around Pinnacle Peak.
At Arizona Luxury Real Estate, we follow these calendars because they affect how a home near the trailheads or the first tee actually works week to week. If the fall reopening has you thinking about which part of Troon suits your routine, or what your current home is worth heading into the busy season, please contact us. We're glad to talk it through.
